This week we see Jesus ascend to the heavenly realm as he now continues his ministry and mission through his newly minted apostolic representatives. Their first order of business is to pray while they wait to receive the Spirit of God. After prayer they come to a consensus regarding choosing a replacement for Judas. We see from the apostles example that one of the important ways to prepare for undertaking mission is to intentionally raise up gifted and godly leaders electing them through the studying of scripture, prayer, and seeking wisdom through group discussion. With the arrival of the Holy Spirit we see all the believers present in the Upper Room receiving a powerful assurance of God’s love and the ability to be an effective witness of the gospel.
