Presenting the Gospel
Week 11, Sunday August 16th

Theme for this Sunday: Stephen Presents the Gospel

Passage for Sunday: Acts 6:8-7:60

This passage introduces Stephen and marks the beginning of the next chapter in the early church. Stephen was incredibly effective in his ministry because he knew the gospel, who had such an amazing relationship with Jesus that the presence of God overflowed from him. He had a deep God-given joy and deep understanding of the richness of the gospel that was evident to everyone.
Stephan was charged with preaching the gospel that sought to make the temple irrelevant and the Law of Moses obsolete which was serious accusations. Stephen’s long speech in his defence was powerful and had a powerful on all those present including the Pharisee Saul. Stephen's central claims are that he serves a living God who cannot be contained or restrained by a building or a place. Instead the holy place is wherever God is!
