Theme for this Sunday: What is Conversion?
Passage for Sunday: Titus 3:4-8 + Ephesians 2:1–6
As we continue our journey through Acts we see an increasing number of accounts of Christian conversion. The most dramatic of these is the Pharisee Saul who we will look at next week, but last week we also saw the conversion of the Ethiopian.
This week we’re going to consider what Christian conversion means. The New Testament uses a number of words and ideas to describe and explain conversion but it does make a distinction between conversion and regeneration; Regeneration is the supernatural part that God does, but conversion is the bit we do. Both are part of the same process that we call by many names such as being born again, receiving Christ, and believing.

Titus 3:4-8 New Living Translation
4 But— When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.[a] 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.
8 This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.
Ephesians 2:1-6
Made Alive with Christ
2 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world.[a] He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
